Chicharito Hospitalized with Concussion

Manchester United's Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández missed Wednesday night's match against the MLS All-Stars after being hospitalized overnight for a concussion.

According to a statement released by the English Premier League champions, the 23-year-old Hernández sustained a mild concussion when he took a ball off the top of his head during a training session. He is expected to miss up to two weeks.

The dynamic Mexican goal scorer wasn't missed as Man United beat the MLS All-Star team 4-0.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said after the game that he hadn't planned on playing Hernández much in Wednesday's match. Ferguson also said he didn't have big plans for Hernández in Saturday's European Champions League final rematch against Barcelona in Washington D.C.

"He would never have been available for Barcelona, anyway," Ferguson said. "He's just coming back from a break after playing the (Concacaf) Gold Cup for Mexico. He wasn't going to be involved for two or three weeks, anyway."
Hernández had joined Manchester United's U.S. Tour late and had seen only limited time.

"We took him to the hospital overnight, and all the scans were good," Ferguson said. "He spent today resting in his hotel room."

Ferguson said Hernández was cleared to travel with the team.

The effects of the concussion did not become immediately apparent, as witnesses to Tuesday night's practice at Red Bull Arena noted that Hernández was the last player to leave the field. After the practice, the striker ran sprints with a teammate.
