Hernandez could miss 'weeks'

Sir Alex has ruled Javier Hernandez out of action for “a couple of weeks” after the Mexican striker suffered concussion at the Reds' New Jersey training session on Tuesday evening.

Chicharito was hit by a stray ball, and although there was no immediate concern for the 23-year-old goal poacher, he was later taken to a local hospital and was kept under observation overnight.

He wasn't at Red Bull Arena for United's 4-0 win against the MLS All-Stars 24 hours later, but will be on the plane when the touring party fly from Newark airport to Washington Dulles on Thursday morning.

Hernandez certainly won't be fit to face Barcelona at FedEx Field on Saturday, although Sir Alex says the Mexican was never in his plans anyway.

“He would never have been available for Barcelona,” the boss told journalists at his post-match press conference after the All-Stars game. “He will be out for a couple of weeks. He got a concussion in training [on Tuesday] and we dealt with that. We took him to the hospital, he had a scan, it was all clear.

“But he probably wouldn't have been playing in a couple of weeks anyway because he's just come back from his break after playing in the Gold Cup for Mexico. He wasn't going to be involved in our team for two or three weeks.”
