Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is relishing Mexico’s clash against World Cup winners Spain.
The youngster has impressed since it was announced that he would be moving to Old Trafford, scoring twice in the World Cup before scoring on his Red Devils debut in the 3-1 Community Shield win over Chelsea on Sunday.
"[I'm] happy, happy, happy [to get off to a good start with United], but we must go step by step, very calmly, and realise that this is just the beginning," Hernandez noted cautiously.
"I consider myself a player, nothing more nor less than anyone else, and came to the club to work — if I get to participate I [hope I] will be there forever."
Hernandez's focus for the next two days, though, will be Mexico. He arrived in Mexico City on Monday ahead of El Tricolor's high-profile friendly against Spain.
"I am very happy to be here," Hernandez told the Mexican Daily Record upon his arrival. "I am always grateful, happy to be in my country once more. Playing the world champions, any team would want to play them."
Although the match may not necessarily carry many long-term benefits, as interim coach Enrique Meza will be around for this game only, Hernandez said he and his teammates are taking the game seriously.
"We are going to enjoy it immensely," Hernandez said. "It is against the World Cup champions and we are going to focus from now until the game in order to look for a victory."
The Mexican insists the team winning against Spain is more important than personal glory.
"The important thing is that the national team wins, not who scores the goals," he added. "Like any player joining his national team, I will always want to be part of the national team."
